NSBA State Marching Contest, Oct. 23, 2010

NSBA Members,

I hope everyone has had a great school year, and has even better plans for summer! I’m sending this email to update you on some of the changes and progress regarding NSBA Marching Band.

See the bullet points below, and please contact me if I can be of any assistance in planning your fall show, schedule or help answer any questions.

• Rulebook and contest procedures have been posted to the website. This most recent revision includes details of the three approved proposals (AA seeding, performance designation and sanctioning) as well as several policies left out of previous versions.

• An 8-member committee has been at work to revise our Mission Statement and Goals. After several revisions, this almost is ready to post and should be available online soon. I thank each of them for their time and attention during this busy time of year.

• Much progress has been made towards sanctioning local contests, but a few changes from discussion at our March meeting are noted below:

o No combined application. Please look to your mail for each event you plan to attend.
o You will need separate checks for each event.
o Harvest of Harmony will continue to operate as in the past, but will be on board in 2011.
o We are adding an early season event, hosted by Millard West, at Buell Stadium.
o As discussed, ideally, we will have 2 national-level judges who will also return for the contest on 10-23 and several local people who will also repeat. While this is the ideal situation, some individual judge schedules make this difficult. We shall do our best!

• The application for the state contest on 10-23 will be available online by the summer convention. Several of you requested it to be posted now, but several others asked to wait. You will receive notification when it is posted.

Thank you for your patience with these minor adjustments. I hope the significant progress made since the March convention will help your planning. My goal with everything is to get it done “right,” vs. getting it done “right now.”

Have a great summer; I hope to see you in July!
