Concert and Jazz Reading Bands
Please join us on Friday in the Ballroom of the New World Inn for the jazz band reading session that will be directed by Jason Pentico. Saturday’s concert band reading session at Columbus High School will be conducted by Dr. Carolyn Barber and Alfred Watkins. There will be a mix of new original literature and perhaps new arrangements of some familiar marches and jazz standards for our concert and jazz ensembles. The Saturday morning concert band reading session will be held at Columbus High School. Thanks to Jeff Peabody (Columbus H.S. Band Director) for providing us with needed equipment for both sessions. PLEASE BRING YOUR INSTRUMENT AND PARTICIPATE IN BOTH READING SESSIONS!!!

Important Topic Discussion Forums
Three general discussion sessions have been scheduled for Thursday evening. We will have sessions dealing with large schools, small schools and one that will focus on elementary/middle school topics. Come prepared to discuss ideas and share what works for you at your school.

Student Leadership Workshop
The Student Leadership Workshop will be held Saturday, July 10th, from 8:30 a.m. – 2:30 p.m., and will be held at Columbus High School. Frank Troyka will once again lead this session. Frank brings many experiences and a wealth of ideas that will provide students the opportunity to further develop their leadership skills. Participating students should bring a pencil and notebook and should wear appropriate clothing for outdoor marching. Plan to bring your student leadership team for this workshop. Register early, as the session fills quickly. Lunch is included in the student’s registration.

Graduate Credit Available
For NSBA members attending the Summer Workshop, graduate credit will be available through Doane College. Persons wishing to receive graduate credit must attend the entire Workshop (Thursday through Saturday) and submit a reflection paper on the ideas, concepts, and techniques presented in the various sessions following the convention. Finally – we get to the “fun” items!
We highly encourage you to bring your family and let them participate in any of the following activities:

• Annual Golf Tournament at Quail Run Golf Course: This event is open to golfers and “hackers”. Rex Barker is setting up a scramble format that should be fun for everyone.
• Family Softball Game: This activity is organized by Chris Tucker so bring your glove and have some fun!
• Water Park: Bring your suit and enjoy the water park that is located just across the street from the hotel. The NWI water park is complete and NSBA members will be able to purchase passes for $5, good for the NWI indoor water park only.
• Deli-International Social Hour – Friday Night: Janet and Milt Bemis host this event. We extend our sincere thanks to them for continuing to provide this for our summer workshop!
