Membership
- The group will be made up of currently involved 8th grade band
students.
- The student has to be currently enrolled in an instrumental class
playing the instrument they are auditioning on.
- The group will be selected to fill a set instrumentation of 82
members.
- The instrumentation and number of alternates are listed to below.
- Directors must be NSBA members for their students to be
eligible to participate in the ensemble.

Audition
- Audition materials
o
Selected etudes and chromatic scale (selected
rudiments for percussion).
o
Posted on the NSBMA.org website.
o
Students may audition on multiple
instruments. In this case, the
order of priority must be clearly marked on the audition form.
- Percussion
o
Percussionists may choose one or more focus areas to audition
including mallet, timpani or battery percussion.
- Audition fee
o
An audition fee of
$7 will be required to process the audition recordings.
o
Fees for students auditioning on multiple
instruments (including percussionists) should be calculated per entry, not per
student.
o
Please submit one check per school (for all
auditions) with the recordings.
- CD requirement
o
Only auditions recorded on CD's will be
accepted.
o
Each schoolÕs CD's are to be submitted by
instrument.
- Audition Forms
o
Audition Forms with your schoolÕs exclusive audition code number and more
detailed instruction will be mailed to NSBA members the week of August 2nd. Anyone not receiving that information
should request it.
o
Please read and follow the audition
instructions exactly to eliminate any chance of confusion in the judging
process.
- Due Date
o
Auditions are to be postmarked by October 9, 2010.
o
Payment must accompany CDs and audition form
to be processed.
o
Mail all of the instrument CDs from your
school along with the audition form and payment for the auditions ($7 per
entry) to:

Please

Audition results
- The results and the music will be first available to the directors
via e-mail prior to the NMEA Convention.
- The music will be available at the NMEA Convention in November.
- The results will be mailed to the directors who do not attend the
NMEA Convention.
- If selected, the student will be required to pay an additional $30 participation fee to cover the
costs of the event, which will include a tee-shirt, and lunch.
- Confirmation of the selected students and their
participation fee is due Friday, December 3rd.
Alternates
- Alternates will receive music but will only be required to pay and
attend if selected students decline their chair or fail to meet all other
requirements.
- Last minute illness may not necessarily be a reason for alternates
to be used.
